The Ironmen will play the first of a two-game road trip this afternoon when they travel to the Wachovia Spectrum to take on the Philadelphia Kixx. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:05 PM.
The Ironmen will look to rebound after a loss Friday night to fellow expansion club La Raza de Monterrey. Despite the loss, the Irons remain only one game behind co-leaders Chicago and Detroit for top spot in the MISL standings.
The Kixx are coming off a road loss to the 2-16 Orlando Sharks. The Kixx have dropped their last three games and have sunk to seventh in the standings. The defending champs have not been able to muster more than nine points in each game during the three-game slide.
Philadelphia is lead by forward and head coach Don D’Ambra, who has tallied a team-high 33 points this season.
The Ironmen fell to Philadelphia 10-8 in a December meeting at the Prudential Center.

Ironmen (10-5) vs La Raza de Monterrey (5-10)
The Ironmen will conclude their four-game home stand when they host La Raza de Monterrey tonight at the Prudential Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
The Irons, winners of their last two, will enter the match just one game behind first-place Detroit in the standings. The Irons will look to continue their recent gutty play, which includes a game-winning goal with just 53 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter against Baltimore and a last-minute, three-man penalty kill to edge California 17-14.
Monterrey will enter the match seeking to end their current two-game slide. They are two games behind California for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Monterrey features forward Dino Delevski, who has tallied the second-highest point-total in the MISL this season (21 G, 6 A, 52 PTS). Monterrey boasts the best power play conversion percentage in the league (60%), but suffers from poor penalty killing as they have conceded the most power play goals (18 G).

Namazi the Bull: Part II???
Sometimes questions get brought forth to us at the Local Fe26. We all know there isn't really any media coverage in the area besides websites like Big Apple Soccer, luckily we have a few spies and informers.
So when the question of Namazi and the Red Bull (CFKA Metro)Asst. Coach position gets thrown our way, we try to put our ear to the ground.
Our spies report that Omid Namazi is in talks with RBNY about the position. Red Bull coach Juan Carlos Osorio (JCO) likes him, and feels he is the go-to guy. If the talks break down, JCO does have a "Plan B."
Well that's the most direct answer we are giving out.
So it looks as if talks are still in the works. We'll let you know as this story develops.

Irons over California Cougars -- Post Game--
Saturday, Jan 19th the Irons(10-5) toppled the California Cougars(7-8) 17-14 marking their 10th victory of the season. Moojen recorded his second hat-trick this season helping to left the Irons once again.
The crowd came alive towards the end of the game, when the ref's decided to throw on some Cougar jerseys. It was exciting to say the least. I'll leave the blog at that, because it's late and we have other things to discuss.
This Friday the 25th, the Irons return to action versus Monterrey LaRaZa, once again at the Rock in Newark, NJ. Make sure you all get out to the game.

Sloan Comes Through...
This post is a little late. But better late than never. We promise to be more prompt in the future.
But boy oh boy, did assistant coach and forward Kevin Sloan come through or what last week?

The veteran buried the game winning goal with less than a minute left, leaving a final score of 13-12 over the Baltimore Blast. Wins at home have been rare this season, and this one came with perfect timing. It's the calm of players enabling them to produce in clutch situations like these that keep the fans coming back.
The Irons (9-5) return to action this coming Saturday, Jan. 19th @ 2PM vs the California Cougars. If you haven't made the trip yet this season down to the Prudential Center in Newark, this Saturday should be the day to do it.

Namazi to leave for Metro
SoccerByIves has reported that Ironmen head coach and Vice President of Soccer Operations Omid Namazi will be named as Juan Carlos Osorio's first assistant coach at Red Bull New York on Wednesday. Namazi, who has currently lead the expansion Ironmen to MISL's third-best record (9-5), will replace the recently departed John Harkes and the reassigned Richie Williams as Osorio's lone assistant. Namazi had been considered along with ex-MetroStars head coach Alfonso Mondelo and former Chicago Fire captain Chris Armas for the position.
Our guess is that Namazi's departure will leave Ironmen player/assistant coach Kevin Sloan as a possible candidate to be the Irons' second head coach in their brief, less-than-one-season history. Sloan’s coaching resume includes stints as an assistant with the Kixx and Philadelphia University. Sloan was recently named 2007 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the men’s soccer team at Neumann College to a 7-7-4 record and their first playoff berth in program history. Sloan has served as head coach at Neumann, a NCAA Division III program, since 2006.

Ironmen (8-5) vs Baltimore Blast (6-6)
Tonight's game will be broadcast live on FSC 8PM EST(Fox Soccer Channel for those not in the know)
The Iron's will try to end their two game skid at home against the Baltimore Blast. There is a scuffle at the top of the standings, and the Irons want back in. When they last met the Blast blew out the Irons 15-2 down in Baltimore. After a disappointing finish in last weeks game (21-12 L vs Ignition), which they dominated for the majority of play, the Irons really need to be up to the task tonight. Hopefully the time off did them some good.
One can only hope.

Namazi The Bull?

Strictly rumor... or maybe not.
I can't find the original article, but you can check this one out if you please... Metrofanatic.com
Basically... it was reported that by BigAppleSoccer.Com that Head Coach Omid Namazi had a conversation with new Metro/Red Bull coach Juan Pablo Osorio about coming in as an assistant. The talks were not official, and no "concrete offer" was made.
But it's news.
