Islanders Move Into First; Begin Champions League Play (Irons In USL Update)

John Krause and the Puerto Rico Islanders got their busiest stretch of the season off to a positive start with a crucial victory over the Charleston Battery this past Friday. Ironmen Lazo Alavanja opened the scoring 58 minutes into the match for the Battery on his fifth goal of the season. But the Islanders stormed back with a pair of late goals to end the match at 2-1.

The win allowed Los Islenos to overtake the Battery and Vancouver Whitecaps for the top spot on the USL-1 table. The Islanders and Battery will meet again this Friday.

The Islanders will also be in action in CONCACAF Champions League play starting tonight when they travel to Costa Rica to take on Alajuelense in the first leg of their Preliminary round meeting. The match will air on Fox Soccer Channel at 10:00 PM.
